Scientist (m/f/d) for Joint Communication and Sensing

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna. The research field Enabling Digital Technologies within the Competence Unit for Security and Communication Technologies is leading in applied 5G and beyond research of advanced reliable wireless joint communication and sensing systems for time-sensitive use cases in the domain of railways, street transport, industrial automation, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Responsibilities
* You will investigate physical layer aspects of joint communication and sensing (JCAS) for multi-antenna systems within European cooperative research projects.
* You will conceive and submit research project proposals on the national and international level with strong European industry participation.
* You will design and implement numerical site-specific radio channel representations using the AIT ray tracer running on a GPU cluster.
* JCAS methods for 5G and beyond systems will be studied theoretically, numerically, and with a real-time proof of concept (PoC).
* You will cooperate with the wireless team to calibrate the numerical model with empirical measurement data.
* You will publish your research results in highly ranked journals and present them at national and international conferences.
* You will work in a multi-disciplinary team ranging from post-doctoral scientists to students.
Your Qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
* PhD in Telecommunications, Communications Engineering, Wireless Communications and Signal Processing, Wireless Communications and Sensing, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
* Demonstrated applied research experience in joint communication and sensing systems focusing on 5G and beyond.
* Proven scientific publication and grant acquisition abilities.
* Technical skills for conducting research work in the lab and with numerical tools (C, MATLAB, Python) and software-defined radio components (NI USRP, LabVIEW, GNU Radio).
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills (English and German).
What to Expect:
The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38.5 h/week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 64,316. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
