Job Description
Is graphic design your passion? Do you thrive on pushing creative boundaries and constantly seek innovative ways to elevate design? Are you experienced in leading design strategies across multiple brands and formats, balancing creativity with practical execution? Do you have a strong grasp of visual design principles—typography, product design, and layout—and know how to apply them to craft distinctive brands? As the Head of Brand and Design, you will be responsible for conceptualising and executing design materials for all our owned and operated brands - across various formats such as digital, print, social and experiential. Working closely with our Head of Studio and the Studio team, this position provides a platform to showcase your creativity and lead the charge of the visual identity of Pedestrian Group.
* Champion and embed a high standard of visual storytelling that reflects Pedestrian Group’s tone and values.
* Lead the creative direction for internal brand campaigns, editorial franchises, and tentpole events.
* Oversee the end-to-end creative process from concept ideation to final delivery. This includes live campaigns, internal projects, brand refreshes, and pitch work.
* Ensuring all design outputs meet the strategic objectives of each brand while pushing creative boundaries.
* Uphold and evolve the visual identity of Pedestrian Group’s brands. Ensure design guidelines are consistently applied across all touchpoints while adapting to new creative challenges.
* Collaborate closely with other cross-functional teams to help foster a creative and collaborative environment that drives innovation and high-quality output.
* Work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure that creative strategies align with broader business objectives. You will play a key role in shaping the long-term creative direction and ensuring that design work aligns with Pedestrian Group’s strategic goals.
* Working in collaboration with our Studio Coordinator to manage timelines, workflows, and resource allocation. Ensure that all design projects are delivered on time and to a high standard.
* Stay on top of emerging design trends and technologies, bringing fresh and relevant ideas to the table. Apply these insights to continuously evolve the visual identity and creative output of Pedestrian Group.
Qualifications
The role requires a leader experienced in shaping and executing design strategies across multiple brands and formats. The candidate should be proficient in design tools, with a strong understanding of visual principles like typography and layout. They must collaborate with developers on digital and motion design while balancing creativity with practical execution. Managing teams, briefing freelancers, and fostering positive relationships are key, along with strong communication, presentation, and project management skills. A solid understanding of youth culture and media trends is essential.
* Proven experience in leading the design direction for one or multiple brands.
* Execution of creative projects across various formats including digital, print, social, and experiential.
* Advanced technical knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Figma, and Google Suite.
* A solid understanding of typography, product/packaging design, visual hierarchy, and layout is essential.
* A basic understanding of web design principles (coding not required) and motion design, with the ability to collaborate with developers to ensure smooth execution across digital platforms.
* Ability to think strategically and critically, solving complex creative challenges while keeping the big picture in mind. Able to balance creative development with practical execution.
* Experience in briefing and providing feedback to freelancers, while building positive working relationships within the Studio team and across the wider business. Skilled at briefing, inspiring, and guiding teams to deliver creative excellence.
* Exceptional presentation and communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with senior clients and stakeholders.
* Strong project management skills to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
* A deep understanding of youth culture and trends, with a keen awareness of how to craft content that resonates with younger audiences. Familiarity with the media landscape and the unique challenges it presents.
* Ability to identify and source the best freelance or contract talent within the Australian creative scene to supplement in-house capabilities.
