Cat Haven are on the lookout for an Assistant Manager to work between Cat Haven’s two Op Shop facilities in Scarborough and Willetton.
We are looking for a self-starter with initiative, a positive personality, a flexible, “can-do” attitude and the ability to supervise, support and guide a dedicated and experienced team of volunteers to ensure customers enjoy a welcoming and engaging shopping experience whilst supporting Cat Haven’s mission of improving cat welfare and making a positive impact in the community.
About Cat Haven
Cat Haven was established in 1961 and based in Shenton Park, Cat Haven has grown to become Western Australia’s premier cat welfare organisation and is the largest shelter for homeless, lost and abused cats in the state. Our vision is that every WA cat should be well-cared for and we work towards achieving this by providing shelter facilities, rescue, adoption and re-homing services, foster care programs and boarding facilities. With an intake of approximately 8,000 cats and kittens each year we operate under the “Getting to Zero” model, aiming to rescue and rehome as many cats as possible. We have a dedicated team of employees, volunteers and foster carers whose compassion and commitment enable us to meet our vision and commitment to the welfare of cats and the communities in Western Australia.
About the Role
This position will provide support to the Op Shop Manager in the successful operation of Cat Haven’s two Op Shop facilities with the purpose of generating sales, delivering customer service excellence and overseeing all daily operations including retail sales, donations, advertising and promotion, merchandising, and leadership to a dedicated team of volunteers.
To Succeed in this Role you will Need
1. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Op Shop management and processes including customer service, merchandising, employee management and maximising sales and revenue.
2. Prior experience and understanding of sorting, and pricing of donated goods to be competitive, yet respectful of donors, and in line with ethical practices, waste reduction and circular economy principles.
3. Highly developed product knowledge, brand identification including fashion labels, retail merchandising including visual displays and product placement, stock control and replenishment.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the delivery of excellent customer service with respect and awareness of diversity and inclusion.
5. Strong leadership abilities with highly developed people management skills to support, guide and inspire a team of employees and volunteers including rostering, induction, training and feedback through performance management.
6. High attention to detail with sound problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure in a busy, fast-paced environment.
7. Experience in the use of Point of Sale software will be highly regarded.
8. Working knowledge of social media platforms to drive sales and advertising campaigns highlighting promotions, specials and seasonal products and events.
9. Strong networking and negotiation skills to build and promote collaborative relationships with suppliers, other retail organisations and donors.
10. A sound understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and safe work practices and safe manual handling procedures.
11. Physical fitness and ability to perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting and carrying to perform essential merchandising duties.
12. A current WA Drivers Licence.
13. Be available to work Saturdays or Sundays on a rotating basis with the Manager.
14. Full Australian Working Rights.
15. Satisfactory Current National Police Clearance.
