About the Role
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you are a crucial member of the supplier quality development team, with a preventive mindset and a resolute dedication to implementing mid- and long-term strategies. You regularly conduct supplier audits and assessments, focusing on systems and processes, and identify areas for improvement. Developing and implementing supplier development plans is part of your daily tasks while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive supplier improvement initiatives. Delivering training programs to suppliers on quality control and process improvement techniques allows you to bring your experience to the suppliers on how they manage their business. A strong relationship with suppliers to ensure open communication and collaboration is essential for your success.
How You’ll Make an Impact
1. Development and qualification of suppliers, including definition and tracking of measures to secure quality through a preventive approach.
2. Application of SQM methods and tools to secure development and qualification of suppliers (APQP, PPAP, 8D, RCA, FMEA, etc.).
3. Consistent follow-up on actions and commitments from supplier development activities.
4. Conducting audits and assessments at suppliers, focusing on systems and processes including ISO9001, ISO45001, ISO14001, SE CoC, ISO27001, Product Safety Assessments, and Due Diligence in the Supply Chain Act (LkSG).
5. Performance-based steering of suppliers and supporting (and possibly leading) fast response teams with contingency procedures (risk-based approach).
6. Continuous evaluation of risks at suppliers and feedback from material field working groups (based on actual performance).
7. Monitoring the performance of approved suppliers through a performance scorecard that describes the current situation and focus points for further activities.
8. Jointly develop Material Field Roadmaps to identify opportunities and risks and define the right measures to secure material availability and process stability.
What You Bring
1. Bachelor/Master/PhD degree in engineering or a related field.
2. Several years of relevant experience in supplier development and quality management, ideally with experience in R&D, Manufacturing, or Project Development.
3. Strong analytical skills and experience with quality methods such as APQP, FMEA, 8D, RCA.
4. Knowledge of best practices in supplier management and industry trends.
5. Certificate as Auditor (VDA is an advantage).
6. Team player with attention to detail, a high level of self-initiative, and flexibility.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Fluent in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
9. Willingness to travel (> 50%) domestically and internationally.
