We live in a mobile device-driven world where the need for continuously increasing data throughput, uninterrupted connectivity, and low latency data exchange are demanding continuously evolving communication techniques and innovation. At Apple, we are committed to developing best-in-class mobile devices that enable an uncompromised customer experience and ever-increasing battery time. Keeping our commitment is possible by being at the forefront of innovation, by bringing to our teams outstandingly dedicated and motivated people. The success we strive for is the result of very skilled teams collaborating in an environment that cultivates creativity, partnership, and thinking of old problems in new ways, along with an uncompromised need for excellence. If that sounds like the kind of environment that intrigues you, then let's talk. We are looking to hire an RF System Validation Engineer in a group that develops cellular modems used in Apple's mobile devices. You will be responsible for the validation and optimisation of the receiver embedded in the cellular RF sub-system, which is part of different innovative mobile products. Your responsibility will cover all cellular radio access technologies, terrestrial or non-terrestrial communication. Your work will require intensive collaboration with various development or productisation teams across the world. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and self-contained technical expert who can help us with tomorrow’s challenges! Description In the cellular modem development, the RF system is developed, characterised, and optimised before it gets integrated into different kinds of products. As an RF system validation engineer, you have a wide range of responsibilities during the complete development cycle. This starts by defining the test scope, planning, and developing the test cases, which are then used to characterise and optimise the RF system. You will own regression tests that monitor the achieved performance during the entire development and productisation phase. Your competence and dedication are required to solve very tricky functional and performance failures reported from product testing and are needed all the way until the launch of the product. Your collaboration skills will enable you to overcome technical challenges that need to be resolved by different teams located in various locations across the world. Your role will include but not be limited to the following tasks: Definition and planning of the test scope, a thorough study, and excellent understanding of the system specifications in order to identify the most relevant and challenging system use-cases. Implementation of tests, requiring equally strong RF, HW, and SW competences, usage of cellular system knowledge to conceive meaningful regression campaigns with uncompromised coverage and short execution time. Maintain the installed quality gates, constantly appending the coverage to address all encountered functional or performance spec failures. Characterisation and optimisation of the downlink system performance, following the defined process of the required automation flow, which will help cope with the multi-dimensional solution space. Debugging of functional or performance issues, requiring strong RF expertise with the capability to understand how those RF KPIs can influence the system behaviour. Track the status and progress of the project execution, by defining metrics with well-defined verdicts. Drive RF related problems to a solution involving and collaborating with all relevant colleagues from different disciplines (System Engineering, HW, FW, and SW development teams). Secure the product validation readiness at the 1st day of the HW availability by Virtual Prototyping. Minimum Qualifications Work experience in RF receiver validation and optimisation, complemented with an educational background in RF technology. Excellent understanding of digital RF receiver implementations and the RF receiver's key performance indicators. Deep understanding of RF fundamentals & RF measurement techniques; experience with the handling of pioneering RF measurement instruments and their automation. Sound knowledge of cellular 3GPP (2G/3G/4G/5G) RF standards. Proven multi-functional collaboration experience involving multiple teams and subject areas. Excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to accept diverse challenges. Preferred Qualifications A very good understanding of RF cross-talk and RF interference avoidance and mitigation practices is an advantage. Experience in characterising and debugging RF cellular systems and components, including systematic root-causing abilities. C/C++ or Matlab knowledge being of advantage. Apple is an Equal Opportunity Employer that is committed to inclusion and diversity. We also take affirmative action to offer employment and advancement opportunities to all applicants, including minorities, women, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Apple will not discriminate or retaliate against applicants who inquire about, disclose, or discuss their compensation or that of other applicants. Please contact us to request accommodation.
