ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States. The relevance of ISID as an integrated approach to all three pillars of sustainable development is recognized by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNIDO’s mandate is fully recognized in SDG-9, which calls to “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”. The Directorate of Corporate Services and Operations (COR) is responsible for the management of UNIDO’s human, financial and material resources. The Directorate oversees a full range of corporate services to meet the support needs of the Organization and promotes a culture of cooperation, service orientation and corporate excellence throughout the Organization.
UNIDO InnoLab
The position is located under the Innovation Lab (COR/DIT/LAB). The UNIDO Innovation Lab (InnoLab) focuses on enabling organization-wide platform for advancing industrial innovation and digital transformation.
As part of its portfolio, InnoLab leads ScaleX, UNIDO’s new flagship global innovation acceleration programme, aimed at de-risking market entry and scaling for startups, scaleups, and SMEs in emerging and frontier markets.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Head of the UNIDO Innovation Lab and guidance of the ScaleX Programme Manager, the Communications and Outreach Expert will lead the visibility, stakeholder engagement, and outreach strategy for ScaleX.
In particular, the incumbent will perform the following key functions:
Strategic Communications & Content Development
* Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for ScaleX.
* Create high-impact content, including articles, reports, case studies, and success stories.
* Oversee the development of visual and multimedia content.
* Ensure that all communications materials adhere to UNIDO branding and visibility guidelines.
Media Relations & Public Engagement
* Foster relationships with international, regional, and industry media outlets.
* Draft and distribute press releases, op-eds, and media briefings.
* Act as a focal point for media inquiries.
Digital Outreach & Social Media Engagement
* Lead the development and management of ScaleX’s digital presence.
* Plan and execute targeted digital campaigns.
Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
* Develop and maintain communications partnerships.
Event Branding & Thought Leadership
* Lead the branding, communication, and marketing efforts for ScaleX events.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact Reporting
* Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for communications impact.
MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, international relations, or a related field is required.
Technical and Functional Experience:
* At least five (5) years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or marketing is required.
* Proven experience in developing and implementing communications and outreach strategies is desired.
* Strong track record in digital media and content marketing is required.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
