The UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas (MCA) at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences provides excellent research and inspiring learning experiences for nature conservation in the 21st century. Its interdisciplinary team has become an internationally visible hub for excellence, innovation, and new technologies in nature conservation with a particular focus on the management of conservation areas. Our work is based on an international, transdisciplinary, holistic, and integrated understanding of conservation areas, as advocated and exemplified by UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, (natural) UNESCO World Heritage sites, and UNESCO Geoparks. Coordination Research-Project Craft2Biodiversity - Junior Researcher (m/f/d)
Job profile and tasks
Brief: The Interreg project Craft2Biodiversity: Creating Synergies Between Biodiversity and Craftsmanship explores opportunities for the craft sector in relation to biodiversity. It focuses on product improvement, process optimization, new business models, and social sustainability. Examples include using sustainable materials to diversify product offerings, implementing solar-powered green roofs to optimize energy consumption while enhancing biodiversity, and expanding business models to attract new customer segments with biodiversity-focused innovations. As a Project Coordinator, you will support the project scientifically and administratively, contributing to its success.
Tasks:
1. Supporting research and management activities of the Craft2Biodiversity project.
2. Coordinating with cross-border partners in Austria and Italy.
3. Assisting in the development and implementation of pilot activities in both countries.
4. Managing communication, documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks related to the project.
5. Supporting public awareness campaigns to promote the importance of biodiversity and its opportunities for craftsmanship.
Your profile
You combine strong knowledge in biodiversity & nature conservation with solid expertise in craftsmanship, particularly in the construction & architecture sectors, along with a passion for innovation to develop new solutions & opportunities. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, architecture, or a related discipline, combined with a strong understanding of nature conservation and biodiversity; alternatively, broad ecological expertise with a good understanding of craftsmanship and construction.
Strong knowledge of practical nature conservation on construction sites and in urban areas, including familiarity with key species groups (e.g. Naturschutzfachkraft). Good IT skills and excellent proficiency in Italian, English, and German. Experience in project coordination, preferably with international or cross-border projects. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Highly team-oriented with a precise, reliable work ethic and a strong sense of scientific curiosity.

Salary for master’s degree: € 2,905 gross monthly salary (minimum salary for full-time employment; negotiable depending on qualifications and professional experience)
