We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Sommelier to join our team at the Makers In Common group based in Fremantle, Western Australia.

You will be a passionate and driven individual who lives and breathes the wine industry. You will have extensive knowledge under your belt but also a passion and desire to keep your finger on the pulse in industry developments and trends. You will have strong relationships and networks in the industry and be driven to provide exceptional, personalised service to customers.
Because wine is your passion, you will thrive in sharing your knowledge and love of wine with restaurant teams. Part of this will be leading in-house training and assisting with the wine service to guests across venues.
As Head Sommelier, you will be responsible for managing wine programs across three prominent venues. As a hospitality group that is constantly growing and evolving, this role will have a business development aspect to it, where you will be leading the development and planning of wine programs for new venues.
What you'll be doing
* Curating and maintaining exceptional wine lists, including planning, purchasing, and seasonal updates
* Overseeing the wine service team, providing training and development to ensure consistent and high-quality service
* Conducting wine tastings and pairing recommendations for guests, enhancing their dining experience
* Monitoring and managing wine inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels and rotation
* Collaborating with the culinary team to develop innovative food and wine pairings
* Staying up-to-date with industry trends and introducing new and exciting wines to our program
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with local and international wine producers and suppliers
Core Competencies
* Minimum 3 years of experience in a Head Sommelier or Senior Sommelier role in a high-end restaurant or hospitality environment
* Extensive knowledge of wine regions, grape varieties, and production methods with the ability to translate this knowledge to guests
* Strong customer service skills with a passion to provide exceptional, personalised service
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team
* Certified Sommelier qualification or equivalent, with a passion for continuing education and professional development
* Familiarity with inventory management and cost control in a hospitality setting
* Demonstrated networks and relationships in the wine industry
