Job Description:
University Assistant - career position (40 hours/week), Institute of Infrastructure, from 01.05.2025 for 6 years, a qualification agreement can be offered. Main tasks include:
1. Research work in the field of computational and experimental soil mechanics;
2. Independent research and project management as well as acquisition of third-party funded projects in the field of constitutive model development and application;
3. Independent implementation and new conception of lectures;
4. Supervision of bachelor/master theses and co-supervision of dissertations (independent supervision after habilitation);
5. Organisation of scientific and transfer-oriented events;
6. Support in the administration of the department.
Required qualifications:
1. Completed doctorate in technical sciences in civil engineering specialising in soil mechanics/geotechnics or comparable;
2. Relevant scientific achievements beyond the dissertation/PhD (publications in SCOPUS/WOS-listed publication organs, presentations to specialist audiences and at transfer-oriented/third mission events);
3. Description of a research project at habilitation level;
4. Presentation of a teaching concept;
5. Experience in university teaching in the research topic and in the development and application of innovative/digital teaching methods;
6. Experience in the supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses and in the co-supervision of dissertations;
7. Knowledge of German (min. B2 level or willingness to acquire this in a reasonable time), very good knowledge of English;
8. Relevant professional experience after the dissertation/PhD (minimum 24 months);
9. Professional mobility experience during or after the doctorate/PhD or willingness to mobility during qualification period;
10. Proven professional international cooperation;
11. Experience in the acquisition of competitive third-party funding and in the successful completion of research projects;
12. Excellent knowledge in theoretical soil mechanics and in material model development;
13. Experience in the application of higher-order material models to boundary value problems;
14. Experience in the organisation and active participation in scientific and public events;
15. International networking with relevant research institutions and international visibility;
16. Creative problem-solving skills for both scientific and application-related tasks;
17. Social skills and ability to work in a team.
The vacant post offers a continuous scientific career up to an associate professor. A key component of this tenure track model is the so-called 'Qualifizierungsvereinbarung' (qualification agreement). This agreement shall be concluded as the case may be at the latest one year after being employed. More information can be found here.
An initial salary of € 4.933 p.m. * shall be offered for this position. In the following, the conclusion of the qualification agreement will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.124 p.m. * and the fulfilment of the agreed qualification objectives will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.546 p.m. *. All mentioned salaries are monthly gross salaries, paid 14 times p.a.
