Job Description for Mechanical Engineer in R&D
X-Therma is a fast-moving and innovative startup based in San Francisco with a hardware R&D branch in Innsbruck, Austria. We are pioneering breakthrough technology to enhance modern medicine and make a significant impact on global health.
To strengthen our growing team in Innsbruck, we are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer (m/f/d) to support our research and development efforts. You will contribute to the entire process, from concept generation and design to prototyping, testing, and production readiness and certification.
Our product developments offer opportunities for young and experienced engineers alike to apply their design skills in a wide range of technical applications.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop connected storage and transport solutions for a broad spectrum of 'living medicine' products.
* Develop system designs and create metal and plastic components, fixtures for testing, molds, and models for prototyping.
* Drive innovation by designing and developing new products, materials, manufacturing processes, and equipment.
* Manufacture prototypes and oversee low-volume assembly production.
* Support small-scale 3D printing and model making activities.
* Conduct raw material testing to determine performance and properties, ensuring optimal vendor selection.
* Perform thorough performance testing of our products to identify areas for further development.
* Assist in transitioning new products from the R&D phase to production.
* Participate in documentation routines to achieve certified Class II medical device status.
Requirements and Qualifications
* Completed HTL apprenticeship or Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or production engineering.
* Experience with SolidWorks and/or Fusion360, solid and shell design knowledge, mechanical tolerancing, assembly, and technical drawing expertise.
* Profound understanding of 3D prototyping and design for series production.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently with a focus on quality and results.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and competencies in collaboration, conflict management, and teamwork.
* Fluent English language proficiency.
