About the Role
Your Responsibilities:
We are looking for an ambitious technician or junior scientist with strong interest in bioprocess engineering, lab automation and digital lab applications. The successful candidate will support our upstream process development lab team, with a particular focus on pilot scale activities.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Assist in planning and executing cell culture experiments in lab- and pilot-scale bioreactors (from 15 mL up to 200L) including primary separation.
2. Contribute to life cycle management of the pilot plant by implementing new technologies and assisting with investments of lab instruments and infrastructure.
3. Drive digitalization and lab automation activities e.g. by independently utilizing existing or new software with the help of existing super users.
4. Support continuous improvement activities of lab procedures and workflows.
5. Author and review technical documents (e.g. instrument/lab procedures) and provide input to scientific reports by adequate raw data documentation and preliminary data analysis and interpretation.
6. Take on responsibility for the maintenance and repair of laboratory instruments and laboratory infrastructure.
7. Ensure the required level of safety, compliance and data integrity in our development labs according to current Novartis quality guidelines (qualification of equipment, trainings, raw data management).
What you’ll bring to the role:
* Education / Experience: Professional education as a technician (chemistry, biotechnology, process engineering or equivalent) or university degree in life sciences or engineering e.g. BSc with strong hands-on experience (biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, or equivalent).
* Languages: German (fluent) and English (good command).
* Technical knowledge: Hands-on experience with running bioprocesses and – ideally – with cultivation of animal cells at lab and/or pilot scale.
* Thorough understanding of bioprocess engineering principles and upstream unit operations.
* Experience with setting up lab automation procedures would be highly preferable; at least strong interest in this field as well as in the implementation of digital tools is essential.

For this position the minimum salary is € 45,200/year (on a full-time basis).
