Process Engineer Carbonation | Climate Tech
Do you want to use your talent and drive to make a real difference?
sequestra builds the most advanced technology for capturing CO2 in mineral residues. These are returned to the value chain as sustainable building products. Our processes are at the heart of a segment with the potential to reduce global CO2 emissions by 4 Gt.
At sequestra, you will help shape a company that is committed to becoming the global frontrunner in carbonation intelligence. We are based in Vienna and are looking for someone who supports our team in the field of process development for our carbonation technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Development of aqueous carbonation technologies from lab-scale experiments to pilot-scale implementations, ensuring technical feasibility and operational scalability.
* Design and refine process flows for the carbonation of mineral waste materials to optimize CO2 sequestration at larger scales.
* Coordinate and conduct pilot-scale trials to test the efficacy and environmental impact of carbonation processes, documenting all findings thoroughly.
* Collaborate with R&D and technical teams to troubleshoot process issues and refine technology based on trial outcomes.
* Develop protocols and procedures to ensure successful scale-up, including safety, quality control, and compliance benchmarks.
* Assess and integrate new technologies and methods to enhance the process efficiency and sustainability of pilot operations.
* Liaise with environmental agencies and compliance bodies to ensure all pilot processes meet strict environmental standards and regulations.
* Analyze pilot project data rigorously to identify trends, draw conclusions, and make informed recommendations for full-scale deployment.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in process engineering, with a specific focus on scaling up environmental or chemical processing technologies.
* Demonstrated expertise in carbon capture and sequestration (CCUS) technologies, particularly aqueous carbonation of mineral waste.
* Strong project management skills, capable of leading scale-up projects from conception through to pilot testing and evaluation.
* Proficient in the use of process simulation and modeling tools such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS, with a solid understanding of chemical reaction engineering.
* Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems and adapt solutions in real-time.
* Effective communicator, skilled in presenting technical information and progress reports to stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.
* Proactive in staying abreast of industry trends and advancements in carbon capture and storage technologies.
* Commitment to environmental sustainability and a deep understanding of regulatory environments related to carbon sequestration.
Why Join Us?
* Be part of a mission-driven company at the forefront of climate technology.
* Work closely with highly driven founders and gain exposure to all aspects of building a startup.
* The possibility of being responsible for a substantial part of technological development from day 1.
* Opportunity for rapid career growth and development.
* We offer an attractive salary package (minimum 50k € gross per year on a full-time basis according to your qualifications).
* Office in Climate Lab Vienna, the city’s hub for startups in the sustainability sphere.
If you’re passionate about making a difference and have the skills to help us scale, we’d love to hear from you!
