Chief Technical Officer (Renewables and BESS)

A newly created role, resulting from growth, the CTO (Renewables and BESS) will lead the technical team which provides technical oversight, engineering solutions, industrial procurement and adding value through project management to EDF's renewables and BESS projects. They will contribute towards and take collective responsibility for delivering EDF’s Renewables and BESS strategy in Australia.
The role is the organisation’s lead technical, construction and supply chain director across renewable and BESS technologies and provides a senior point of escalation for complex issues.
Key Functions of this role include:
1. Responsible for fostering a proactive Health and Safety culture within the project teams as well with the main contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
2. Management of EDF’s Renewable and BESS technical division in Australia. Lead a multidisciplinary technical team, facilitating their success and professional development to ensure the overall efficient functioning of the technical business stream and effective contribution to project outcomes.
3. Develop a strong understanding of the company’s group technical practices. This includes building a strong network of global contacts to ensure both the technical offering and supply chain are best in class and support the delivery of the project pipeline.
4. Ensure that appropriate project management is put in place (including implementation of the QMS): planning, implementing, monitoring and controlling, and closing of all technical related matters within project, as well as their integration within the overall project workstreams.
5. Accountable for the preparation of consultation, analysis of offers, negotiation and contract closing for technical services and works, as well as their proper execution. Including but not limited to technical advisors, construction contracts (EPC, BoS, BoP) and supply agreements (MSA, TSIA, other).
6. Continually identify asset performance / life cycle improvements that help the organisation remain competitive and win bids in a competitive and demanding market.
7. Ensure that technical aspects of the projects consider the projects’ commitments to external stakeholders as well as compliance with local regulations;
8. Assess and ensure project impact and value creation against strategic directives. Deliver value creation (lowered LCOE) and revenue enhancing benefits through standardisation and innovative solutions.
9. Provide regular updates and high quality reporting on allocated projects to management, stakeholders, steercos, and governance bodies.
The successful candidate for this role will be degree qualified in Engineering or a related field, with additional project management certification well regarded. You will need at least 10 years of proven experience managing and delivering complex renewable energy projects, including project planning, execution, risk management and stakeholder management skills.
Technical expertise is critical, including in-depth knowledge and expertise in renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind and battery energy storage. Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements specific to the renewable energy industry, including permits, licenses, and environmental regulations will also be required, as well as experience in evaluating and selecting appropriate technologies for renewable energy projects, as well as integrating and optimizing these technologies within existing systems and infrastructure.
