The Opportunity
This role sits within our High Performance Football Department (not our P&C department). Reporting to the General Manager of List and Talent Strategy, the AFL National Recruiting Manager will lead and manage the AFL Men’s recruiting department and identification of new draftable talent. Leveraging the Club’s Talent Strategy and traits model, this role will scour the country and globe to ensure the Club has access to the best draftable talent.
The decisions they make will be critical to ensuring our AFL Men’s playing list remains durable and competitive to ultimately challenge and put itself in the Premiership window. The role will also collaborate closely with our Future Magpies department, ensuring our Club’s pathways with the Peter Daicos Academy and Next Generation Academy are creating a sustainable pipeline for draftable talent at the Club.
A key component of this role will be creating and fostering relationships amongst key cohorts within the AFL, player managers, Coates League Coaches, as well as the various other State Leagues throughout the country.
Other key responsibilities:
* Lead and coordinate the Club’s recruiting team including all full-time and part-time recruiters and scouts.
* Lead player interviews and the collation and assessment of information on draftable talent.
* Identify new opportunities to innovate and utilize technology to inform decision making.
* Regular reporting to the List Management Committee.
* In collaboration with the General Manager of List and Talent Strategy, support with decisions on List Management.
* Oversee and advise on the Club’s VFL list strategy, ensuring alignment with the Club’s list strategy.
* In conjunction with the Recruiting and List Administration Manager, ensure compliance with all AFL list management and draft rules.
About You
To be successful as the AFL National Recruiting Manager role, you will have:
* Ability to interpret high performance athlete data to make informed decisions on draftable talent.
* A passion for identifying potential.
* Adept skills with Technology and Software.
* Experience working with talent in a high-performance environment.
* A passion for influencing people and an ability to see a vision.
* A knack for interpreting data and drawing insights.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication.
* Ability to build trust and rapport quickly with internal stakeholders.
* Be able to problem-solve in a fast-moving environment.
* Tertiary qualification in Performance/Data Analytics, Human Resources, Teaching or a related field (desirable).
