BAW Research is a newly established legal entity within the Austrian Federal Agency for Water Management (BAW), dedicated to Water Research in its various facets and based on activities of the BAW (www.baw.at). For a project with a focus on agricultural landscape management for hydrological purposes and dedicated particularly to erosion control, we are looking for a highly motivated researcher with experience in hydrologic/erosion modelling and strong skills/interest in programming and developing model interfaces to connect a suite of hydrological/environmental models.
What do we want you to do?
The person we are looking for is supposed to:
1. drive forward the progress in planning, development, and execution of hydrology and geoinformatics applications within an agile working environment,
2. architect and optimize the technical infrastructure necessary for hydrological modelling up to regional scale, analysis, and application development, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance,
3. collaborate with project partners, stakeholders, and the development team to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions that meet project goals,
4. disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences and workshops.
What can you offer?
A successful candidate will be expected to:
1. hold an MSc or PhD in geoinformatics, data science, physical geography, soil and landscape hydrology, environmental engineering or a related field; a specialization in modelling is an advantage,
2. have a strong affinity for up-to-date programming applications, with the ability to bridge the gap between geospatial science, hydrological modelling and software development or customization,
3. provide analytical thinking with a demonstrated ability to solve complex, interdisciplinary problems,
4. have experience in the handling of environmental and hydrological data (measurements, official data sources), including the assessment of data quality and its usability in modelling applications,
5. offer extensive experience in geoinformatics (databases, desktop GIS, WebGIS, APIs) with a preferred focus on landscape hydrology,
6. possess proficiency in various coding environments (such as C, C++, Python) for data analysis, statistical modelling and algorithm development for environmental applications.
The successful applicant owns an independent working style and commitment to constant learning and professional development, but is also dedicated to team communication, applying his ability to thrive in a collaborative, research-focused environment.
What can we offer?
The duration of the project is 36 months starting at the earliest possible time. We offer an attractive salary according to the collective agreement for non-university research organisations in Austria (level F/III) with a proposed gross monthly salary of € 4953, overpayment according to working experience. We do also offer the possibility of part-time home office work and company-based health insurance.
Work address: BAW Research, Austria
If you are interested in this offer please send an E-mail with personal details and scientific motivation to research@baw.at. The position will remain open until filled adequately.
