University Professor (m/f/d)
for the subject area of
Computational Materials Science
pursuant to § 98 of the Austrian University Act (UG) 2002 is to be filled at the Department of Materials Science in the form of an unlimited employment contract under public law in accordance with the Salaried Employees Act, on a full-time employment basis.
The researchers and students at Montanuniversität Leoben focus on the main topics of ‘smart materials’, ‘advanced resources’ and ‘sustainable processes’ with the aim of providing sustainable solutions for tomorrow’s world – according to our motto: Where research meets the future! We are seeking a candidate of international academic standing with extensive experience in research and teaching in the field of Computational Materials Science. The research focus of the candidate should be in the area of multiscale materials modelling methods and computer-aided material design. The candidate is expected to:
* have extensive experience in the field of materials modelling, particularly using atomistic approaches (e.g., density functional theory or molecular dynamics), as well as in computer-aided design of structural and functional materials, including their microstructure, interfaces, and surfaces. Experience with mesoscale modelling is advantageous, thereby covering topics such as plasticity, microstructure stability, interface design, or data-driven material development.
* have experience in acquiring and coordinating funded projects, as well as using high-performance computing (HPC) facilities.
* possess experience in application-oriented research with industrial companies, evidenced, for example, by joint publications and patents.
* be willing to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly with the institutes and departments of the Montanuniversität.
* be prepared to contribute appropriately to university organizational and administrative tasks, as well as to evaluations.
In teaching, the fundamentals of multiscale material modelling methods and computer-aided material design are to be primarily conveyed in the bachelor's and master's degree programs in materials science (in German or English). Supervising bachelor's, master's as well as PhD theses is expected.
Employment requirements include a completed domestic or equivalent foreign university degree relevant to the position, a doctoral degree in the relevant field, and a habilitation covering the subject area to be filled or an equivalent academic qualification in the subject. Additional prerequisites are pedagogical and didactic aptitude, leadership qualifications, and proficiency in either German or English.
Highly valued are experience in establishing and leading a research group, as well as in acquiring and managing funded research projects in collaboration with scientific and industrial partners. The successful candidate is expected to apply for funded research projects. Interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues at the Montanuniversität is also anticipated.
The classification and remuneration are based on the collective agreement of the universities in the application group A1. In this classification, the gross monthly salary for full-time employment is € 6.362,50 (14 x per year). Provided appropriate qualification, a higher salary is subject to the appointment negotiations.
