Job Title: Lead Mechanical Fitter – Workshop Manager

With a strong reputation for delivering custom-tailored solutions, they are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Fitter – Workshop Manager to oversee and manage the daily operations of their busy workshop.
Role Overview:
As the Lead Mechanical Fitter – Workshop Manager, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing workshop operations, managing a small team of skilled tradespeople, and ensuring high-quality work is delivered efficiently. You will be responsible for job scheduling, quality control, team development, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise and lead a team of mechanical fitters, apprentices, and trades assistants.
* Oversee workshop operations, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently and to high standards.
* Allocate work, schedule tasks, and monitor job progress.
* Provide technical guidance and hands-on assistance in pump, motor, and gearbox repairs.
* Conduct quality control checks and ensure adherence to engineering specifications.
* Liaise with clients, suppliers, and management regarding project timelines and requirements.
* Maintain stock levels, order materials, and manage workshop inventory.
* Implement and enforce workplace safety procedures and compliance.
* Provide training and mentorship to team members to enhance their technical skills.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
* Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter/Fitter & Turner.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pump maintenance, repair, and installation.
* Previous experience leading or supervising a team.
* Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
* Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
* Experience with centrifugal pumps, diaphragm pumps, lobe pumps, multistage pumps, progressive cavity pumps, split case pumps, submersible pumps, and gear pumps.
* Familiarity with laser alignment, mechanical seal installation, and shaft alignment.
* Ability to operate manual lathes and milling machinery (preferred but not essential).
* Current C-class driver’s license.
* Forklift (LF) license or willingness to obtain.
* Confined space and working at heights certifications (preferred).
* Restricted Electrical Licence (Disconnect/Reconnect) (desirable but not essential).
Work Environment & Hours:
* Workshop-based role with occasional site visits as required.
* Monday to Thursday: 6:30 am – 2:45 pm, Friday: 6:30 am – 1:30 pm.
* Average of 2–4 hours of overtime per week.
