Your Responsibilities
The Mass Spectrometry Service at ISTA offers an array of advanced methods that cover both biological and chemical applications. Our services include High Resolution Mass Spectrum (HRMS) analysis of complex peptide mixtures (Burker timsTOF HT), intact proteins and synthetic compounds, targeted metabolite quantitation (Thermo Q-Exactive HF, Waters Xevo G3), and GC-MS analysis (Agilent 7890, 8860). Furthermore, the service runs analytical (Waters Acquity APC, Waters Acquity H-class with SQD2) and preparative (Thermo Ultimate 3000) HPLCs. Equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, our facility is dedicated to providing high-quality data and aiding researchers from experiment design to results interpretation. Your expertise and grasp of research methodologies will be essential for providing exceptional support to our scientists.
Manage and oversee operations of the Mass Spectrometry Unit, ensuring efficient and high-quality service delivery.
Lead and develop a team of currently 4 colleagues (experts & technicians).
Collaborate closely with researchers, guiding them from experimental design through to data interpretation.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize facility workflows and introduce new methodologies.
Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation; plan and execute regular maintenance schedules.
Provide training and support to researchers and facility users on proper instrumentation usage and best practices.
Manage budgets and resources; prepare service quotes and handle project billing.
Keep updated with advancements in mass spectrometry technologies and methodologies, integrating relevant innovations into the facility.
Promote the facility’s capabilities to attract new research projects and foster collaborations.
Your Profile
Advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field with significant experience in mass spectrometry and proteomics.
Proven track record in managing a core facility or similar laboratory environment.
Extensive hands-on experience with mass spectrometry instruments, particularly those listed in our portfolio.
High level of understanding and proven working knowledge of data analysis tools and workflows, particularly in the field of proteomics.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with a diverse research community.
Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage multiple tasks, and adhere to tight deadlines.
Experience in project management and budgeting.
