About the team:
Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Development Branch promotes sustainable development throughout the city to benefit residents and the environment. The Branch is responsible for the assessment of development applications. Responsibilities also include the provision of planning and building advice, development assessment and improvement, infrastructure change review, developer contributions, infrastructure compliance and planning appeals and research.

As the Coordinator of the Fast Track team, you will coordinate and manage the assessment and resolution of Referral Agency Applications, Express Development Applications and Generally in Accordance determination applications under the relevant legislation, City Plan, Building Act, Local Laws and Council’s Policies.
The role works under broad direction of either the Manager Planning Assessment or the Manager Major Assessment.
Key deliverables of the role:
Leadership:
* Create a positive workplace culture by encouraging constructive collaboration to achieve positive City outcomes.
* Responsible and accountable for the effective and efficient management of a team of professional planners.
* Lead, manage and motivate a team in the assessment of development applications, including the preparation of high-quality reports, during the assessment process for a Referral Agency Application, Express Development Application and Generally in Accordance determination applications in accordance with relevant legislation.
* Coordinate work priorities and undertake workflow monitoring of development applications during the assessment process to ensure timely decisions are made in accordance with the relevant legislation.
* Drive, lead and influence a strong business customer focus by fostering and maintaining relationships in the pursuit of service excellence.
* Undertake improvements to Fast Track processes related to Referral Agency Applications and Express Development Applications.
* Extensive development application, time management and organisational skills.
* Coach, mentor and review staff performance.
Technical:
* Responsible for the presentation, advice and direction of development applications to Councillors during Planning and Regulation committee meetings and/or Council meetings.
* Thorough and detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant State Government legislation, the City Plan, Building Act, Local Laws and Council's Policies.
* Provide specialist technical and professional advice to a wide range of council personnel, Government agencies, professional consultants, solicitors, community groups and the general public to facilitate exemplary planning outcomes.
We're looking for people who have:
* You hold a Bachelor Degree of Town Planning or equivalent knowledge.
* Demonstrated supervisory, leadership and staff management experience, including the ability to mentor others, foster professional development and transfer knowledge and manage/monitor performance.
* Ability to work with limited supervision, take initiative and ensure completion of tasks.
* You are passionate, enthusiastic and motivated to work in a dynamic environment.
* You have developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, consultation and presentation skills.
* You have the ability to research, analyse and investigate by seeking relevant facts, sourcing appropriate information and identifying workable solutions.
* You have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise in a planning environment.
* You are able to deliver high quality service to customers (internal and external) and understand/respond to customer expectations appropriately.
* You are proficient in technology and are able to adapt to new systems and processes.
