Due to our continuing development and success in key industry sectors, we currently have a position available for an experienced person to join our team at Edinburgh North.
JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Strip and Assess Supervisor / Mechanical Designer plays a crucial role in the engineering and Operations team. This position focuses on developing a detailed scope of work for heavy industrial mechanical equipment that requires refurbishment.
* Be the workshop point of contact for the design team – strong ability to liaise with workshop (boilermakers and machinists).
* Quickly and accurately interpret customer drawings.
* Development of detailed report for submission to customers.
* Produce manufacturing files (DXFs, STEP) to the needs of the workshop.
* Work in Autodesk Inventor.
* Liaise with Senior Designer to gather product and structural requirements and materials.
* Produce technical drawings to serve as a visual guide during the fabrication/manufacturing process.
* Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials.
* Describe production methods step-by-step (including equipment and software types to be used).
* Create detailed designs with computer-aided design (Inventor) software.
* Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
* Ensure final designs comply with regulations, quality standards and customer requirements.
* Other duties as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate the following key attributes:
* Proven experience in mechanical equipment disassembly, inspection, and assessment.
* Proficiency in using measurement tools, equipment, and inspection techniques.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g. Inventor, AutoCAD for creating design drawings and specifications).
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
* Safety-conscious mindset with the ability to adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
* Detail-oriented and highly organized.
* Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
* Ability to meet objectives within time constraints, conflicting demands.
* Advanced Diploma OR Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, Trade Certificate in Mechanical Fitting.
