Remuneration: ASO5 – Salary Range ($85 790 - $95 413 p.a.).

About the opportunity:
The Taxation Audit Specialist role is responsible to the Manager, Audit Compliance Services or a Senior Taxation Investigator for carrying out complex audit, investigation and enforcement duties to monitor and enforce compliance with State Taxation legislation.
The Taxation Audit Specialist is required to provide a technical advisory role to taxpayers and to provide “hands on” training and leadership to Taxation Investigators in respect to the conduct of audits and investigations, as well as reviewing and endorsing their reports. The role will contribute to the successful completion of the Branch’s compliance programs and the undertaking of major investigations and high-level research into legislation administered by RevenueSA.
The role involves preparing reports and briefs, as well as obtaining and reviewing evidence and other financial information, to ensure assessments are issued in compliance with State Taxation legislation.
The Taxation Audit Specialist is also required to inform and educate taxpayers in the private sector, of RevenueSA policy and their liabilities, in order to encourage their compliance and to provide a high level of taxpayer service.
About you
The role would suit an individual who has a demonstrated capacity for clear, creative and analytical thinking to undertake complex audits and investigations with the ability to self-motivate and provide leadership and training to a team of Taxation Investigators. You have the ability to work successfully under limited direction to meet the Branches key performance indicators. You will have a commitment to high quality audit, investigation and enforcement outcomes whilst acting in a professional manner within both the public and private sectors.
To be successful you will:
1. Contribute to the conduct of programs in respect of legislation administered by RevenueSA to determine the substance of taxpayer practices (individually or on an industry basis) particularly those associated with the avoidance or evasion of taxation liabilities.
2. Individually, or as a project/team leader, undertake enforcement activities, research, audits and investigations in respect to the affairs of members of the private and public sectors to monitor and ensure compliance with legislation administered by RevenueSA.
3. Prepare reports and briefs as to the outcome of research and investigations undertaken, formulating conclusions, recommending policy or alteration to policy and/or amendments to legislation as appropriate.
4. Provide advice, expert guidance and support to other Compliance Services Branch staff as required.
5. Have a well-developed ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, informing and educating taxpayers of the relevant legislation and their taxation liabilities.
6. Have the ability to examine records for taxation purposes and ascertain the substance of transactions behind the legal form.
7. Experience in the application and interpretation of legislation.
8. Have a strong understanding of commercial accounting principles, procedures and systems.
9. Have the ability to liaise with taxpayers, their professional advisers, representatives of industry and interest groups, Managers of other RevenueSA branches, or Executives and staff or other State and Federal Agencies.
