Overall purpose of the role:
The Protection officer (SGBV) is responsible for the SASA prevention strategy, strengthen the existing community-based systems and raise community awareness to prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). He/she will work closely with the community-based support groups (community-based SGBV focal points and SGBV Advocate group members), leadership, partner agencies SASA! Community Activist (CAs) and other community groups.
He will assist members of other departments to ensure a rights-based approach with a gender focus is mainstreamed in all programmatic areas.
Responsibilities:
* Take lead in conducting SGBV assessments such as FGDs, KIIs, safety audits and community mapping to identify the SGBV risks faced by girls, boys, women and men as well as capacities and resources available for support within the community.
* Perform any other duties as requested by the SGBV Manager.
* Work with the SGBV Manager, SGBV Team leader and fellow officers to create weekly work plans to schedule the team’s program activities.
* Compile and submit the reports of activities undertaken in a timely manner.
* Prepare all necessary documentation for each activity (including weekly vehicle movement plans, order requests, payment requests, etc.) and for the reconciliation of the money spent during each activity.
* Liaise and build partnerships with community leaders and other relevant actors to encourage participation in, support for and a better understanding of the SGBV program activities.
* Lead the SASA awareness raising strategies, support for Community Activist, adopt the tools and ensure the proper use of SASA tools as context based.
* Organize and facilitate regular County-level meetings and dialogues to strengthen community-based prevention and response to SGBV.
* Develop SGBV prevention strategies such as community dialogues, door to door awareness raising activities, campaign aimed at addressing the SGBV concerns as faced by women and girls.
* Organize, lead and supervise SGBV prevention and interventions activities at the community including advocacy initiatives, SASA! CAs, awareness raising, debates, and dramas with support from the community SGBV Focal points.
* Develop training materials for SASA! Team, the SGBV Focal points on SGBV basic concepts, principles, referral pathway, and SGBV prevention and response.
Education:
* Bachelor degree or Diploma in Psychology, Counselling, Social Science degree or higher diploma in a related field is preferred.
* 2 years’ experience working in humanitarian Response in South Sudan, preferably in a SGBV or related fields.
* Fluent in English and Nuer both written and spoken.
* Excellent knowledge on Microsoft office word, Excel, and email application software.
Experience and technical competencies:
* Experience working in Humanitarian response in South Sudan.
* Experience in facilitating trainings for community leaders and government officials.
* Experience with community mobilization and participatory techniques is required.
* Creativity, initiative and self-motivation skills required.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with people at all levels.
* Fluent in written and spoken English (added advantage), fluent written and spoken Nuer.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Email application software.
