The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) is an independent research institute in the field of applied economic research focussing on Central, East and South East Europe. The institute has been operating successfully for over 50 years and enjoys an excellent international reputation. We offer our clients and stakeholders economic studies, forecasts and economic data.
To strengthen our team of economists, we are currently looking for an Economist specialised in the economics of the Visegrád countries.
Main Tasks
* Applied empirical research in macroeconomics, trade, FDI and industrial policy
* Policy-oriented analysis
* Expand our expertise on the Visegrád group economies
* Macroeconomic forecasting and country monitoring of at least one Visegrád economy
* Acquisition and execution of research projects and writing of scientific publications
* Communicate research findings to our main target groups in academia, government, business and the media
Requirements
* MA or PhD in Economics
* Interest in applied economic research
* Quantitative and econometric skills
* Experience in conducting macroeconomic research on Visegrád countries
* Existing contacts with regional academics, policymakers and journalists
* Knowledge of both conventional and heterodox economic analyses
* Research interest in the green economy and/or digitalisation is an advantage
* Excellent English (written and oral); knowledge of at least one Visegrád group language; German is an advantage
* Very good writing and presentation skills
* Flexibility and ability to work in teams

Start: as soon as possible – ideally in December 2024
Initially, the contract will be for a fixed term of 24 months, but the appointment could be made permanent (subject to a satisfactory probationary period). Monthly remuneration (14 times per year), for a 40-hour week, will be € 3.579,- gross or above, depending on qualifications and experience.
