Girvan Group is an established construction company with expertise in an array of sectors such as workplace, commercial, education, health, government, hospitality, retail and aged care. We represent two decades of fit out and construction excellence, providing the highest level of professional service to our clients.
As a Design Manager within the Pre-Construction team, you will be responsible for managing the coordination of both services design (Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Fire) and general design disciplines including architectural, finishes, and material selections. Your role is central to ensuring that all design components are aligned, technically sound, commercially viable, and support overall project objectives.
This position plays a key role in early design coordination, consultant and subcontractor management, and value management exercises—where material, system, and specification choices directly impact performance, compliance, and cost.
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Manager, you’ll work collaboratively with internal stakeholders across Estimating, Business Development, Bid, Marketing and Delivery teams. Externally, you’ll engage with consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, clients, authorities, and other project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the overall design process across services (MEHF), architecture, and finishes from early concept through to construction handover.
2. Lead coordination with consultants and subcontractors to ensure integrated, compliant, and buildable design solutions.
3. Work with Estimators to identify and present value engineering options across both services and architectural elements, considering cost, performance, and whole-of-life value.
4. Support tender submissions (ECI, D&C, Fully Documented), providing technical input across programming, staging, and design methodology.
5. Evaluate design risks and opportunities related to constructability, compliance, and delivery outcomes.
6. Advise on specification, material selection, and services integration to ensure alignment with project scope and client expectations.
7. Liaise with the Delivery team to ensure effective handover of design intent and provide ongoing support through construction where required.
8. Maintain strong working relationships with consultants, clients, subcontractors, and authorities to facilitate efficient resolution of design matters.
