People and Culture Manager (Human Resources) - Part Time
Be Part of Something Bold and Purposeful!
At Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney, we’re rethinking hospitality—putting community, sustainability, and self-expression at the heart of everything we do. Designed to be of the community, not just in it, Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney will be the first of its kind in Australia, offering a vibrant, people-first experience that’s as much about connection as it is about comfort.
We’re looking for a People & Culture Manager to join our pre-opening team—someone who is passionate about building a thriving, inclusive team culture and shaping the people experience from the ground up.
Care Connects Us
At Hyatt, we believe in making people feel at home wherever they are in the world. We turn jobs into careers, encounters into experiences, and trips into journeys. Join a team that is making travel more human, connected, and sustainable. Here, everyone’s role matters, and your individuality is celebrated.
About Caption by Hyatt Sydney
Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney is not some basic hotel. Designed to be truly of the community—not just in it—the people make the place here. Our place is yours for the making, where you can do (and be) you.
Opening in 2025, Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney will feature 174 colourful, fun & eco-friendly guest rooms along with Talk Shop, our all-day lounge, social space and eatery. Expect authentic experiences in an environment where everyone feels at home.
The Flex You’ve Been Looking For
This is a part-time role—equivalent to 3 days per week or 6 days per fortnight—but how you structure it is up to you. We’re flexible, as long as you align with the hotel’s rhythm and deliver what matters most.
The hours may be part-time, but the impact is not. We're looking for someone who’s strategic, people-focused, and ready to shape a high-performing culture from day one.
Why Join Us?
1. Build something from the ground up – Shape the people strategy for a new hotel brand entering the Australian market.
2. Lead with purpose – Drive meaningful change in a collaborative environment where diversity, sustainability, and wellbeing matter.
3. Create impact beyond the team – Champion internal culture, wellbeing programs, community outreach, and inclusion initiatives.
4. Backed by global support – Work closely with Hyatt’s Opening & Transitions and HR teams, with strong regional and corporate support.
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to lead the people and culture function of a new lifestyle hotel brand. As People & Culture Manager (Human Resources Manager), you’ll be responsible for all aspects of the colleague experience—from recruitment and onboarding to learning, development, engagement, safety, and compliance. You’ll collaborate closely with the General Manager and department heads to bring the Caption culture to life, ensuring every touchpoint in the employee journey reflects our brand promise.
Some Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and execute a recruitment plan to build a diverse, brand-aligned team.
2. Work closely with the General Manager in designing a unique and engaging onboarding experience that immerses team members in Caption’s culture from Day one.
3. Partner with leaders to plan training, cross-training, and opening simulations that support operational readiness.
4. Embed the Caption brand values across the full employee lifecycle—from team rituals to recognition programs.
5. Lead wellbeing, inclusion, and internal communications strategies to drive an authentic, connected culture.
6. Build HR systems, processes, and documentation that support both compliance and culture.
7. Champion WHS in collaboration with the Chief Engineer and Safety Lead, including onboarding and return-to-work planning.
8. Maintain HR operations, support leaders with people matters, and ensure compliance with Hyatt policy and local legislation.
9. Support a guest-forward mindset by ensuring team members are empowered to positively impact the guest experience.
10. Foster a culture of growth and development, including succession planning and internal mobility.
What you will bring to the role:
1. Previous experience in an HR or People & Culture leadership role, ideally within a hotel or pre-opening environment.
2. A passion for building culture, storytelling through people experiences, and bringing brand values to life.
3. Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
4. Familiarity with HR legislation and compliance standards in Australia.
5. A proactive and collaborative mindset, able to balance strategy with execution.
6. Energy, empathy, and creativity—this role is for someone who wants to shape a workplace that celebrates individuality.
What’s in it for you:
1. Flexible working arrangements
2. Competitive salary and benefits package
3. Complimentary & discounted accommodation at Hyatt hotels worldwide
4. 10% off private health insurance
5. Generous paid time off and holiday policies
6. Employee Assistance Program for mental health & wellbeing
7. A creative, inclusive culture that celebrates sustainability, innovation, and local connection
8. The opportunity to be part of an exciting pre-opening team launching a global brand in Australia
