Overview
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant will support with all accounting and data reporting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies. This position will be responsible for the entry and verification of various bodies of data in websites and software programs covering a wide segment of the Goodwill Industries of San Diego County (GISD) organization. Responsible for data entry into Goodwill Industries International (GII) Enhanced Monthly Reporting System (Gateway). The Senior Accountant ensures the accuracy of reported data and communicates effectively with company staff members to collaboratively seek solutions when issues arise. This position will be cross trained to assist with the essential functions of the Accounting Manager and Controller, as needed.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions Statement (s)
1. Receives information from the appropriate sources and enters accurate end of month and end of year data into the GII (Goodwill Industries International) Enhanced Monthly Reporting (EMR) module (Gateway). Utilizes EMR reporting function to produce relevant data reports as needed by department and other company personnel.
2. Receives information from the appropriate sources and enters accurate end of month and year to date data into the Consolidated Report.
3. Receives information from the appropriate sources and reports accurate end of quarter and year to date data into New Market Tax Credit report(s).
4. Conducts, documents, and formally reports on quarterly reviews of past Supported Employment billings to verify their accuracy and timeliness.
5. Researches and provides needed reports for accounting and operations personnel from the Point of Sale and Microsoft Dynamics databases.
6. Generates annual Welfare Tax Exemption (WFT) data and verifies for accuracy.
Cross trains and supports the Director of Accounting/Controller and Accounting Manager with the following functions:
1. Annual Budget: Prepares Worksheet templates for use by leadership. Generates reports based on submitted budget data during the budgeting process as requested. Enters annual budget data into the accounting software system.
2. Constructs and maintains annual P&L worksheets for use by leadership, responding to actual and potential user issues as necessary.
3. Annually gathers and ensures the accurate entry of Census data into the government portal.
4. Ensures that all accounting functions are accurate and timely.
5. Supports with verifying the accuracy of daily and payroll bank accounts.
6. Reviews accounts payable batches for accuracy prior to posting to the general ledger.
7. Uploads AP checks, ACH etc. to bank as part of our fraud protection.
8. Posts monthly sales revenue.
9. Generates or approves bank payments or transfers in coordination with the Director of Accounting.
10. Provides support for required documentation during our annual audit and 990 preparations, as requested.
11. Reports uncashed checks to the state.
12. Prepares 1099.
13. Maintains Gift Card recording.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education: BS Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years related experience.
Computer Skills: Must be computer literate. Strong Excel skills are required. Must be experienced in creating and maintaining Microsoft Dynamics accounting applications. Knowledge of Power BI data applications, reporting, and management required.
Certificates & License: Certificate in computer operations is helpful. Must have a vehicle, valid CA Driver’s License, proof of insurance and driving record acceptable by Goodwill’s insurance company.
Other Requirements: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is very helpful. Must be able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Work Schedule: Hybrid Monday-Friday.
