We are now seeking an experienced and proactive Executive Manager of Operations to lead the day-to-day running of the organisation, support strategic delivery, and ensure all operational functions work seamlessly to enable impact.
The Role
The Executive Manager of Operations is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring the smooth, strategic, and effective functioning of all operational areas across the Foundation.
Working closely with the CEO and Board, this role oversees core business functions including program delivery, human resources, finance, compliance, and administration. It plays a central role in implementing strategy, developing systems, and leading high-performing teams to support the delivery of meaningful community outcomes.
You will act as a strategic partner to the CEO, assuming responsibilities aligned with a COO-level role and driving organisational performance, accountability, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the Foundation's day-to-day operations across multiple teams and locations.
2. Oversee financial systems and reporting in partnership with the finance team, ensuring transparency and alignment with budgetary goals.
3. Lead people management, including recruitment, performance development, and HR systems and policies.
4. Support and oversee program operations and delivery, ensuring quality, cultural responsiveness, and community impact.
5. Drive continuous improvement across systems and processes, including digital tools and workflow optimisation.
6. Manage risk, compliance, governance frameworks, and reporting requirements to meet regulatory obligations.
7. Work closely with the CEO to implement the strategic plan and report on progress and performance.
8. Build and maintain relationships with external partners, funders, suppliers, and community stakeholders.
About You
We’re looking for a values-led, collaborative leader who brings both strategic thinking and hands-on operational capability.
* Minimum 5 years' senior-level experience in operations, general management or organisational leadership.
* Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional teams and organisational systems.
* Sound financial literacy and understanding of budgeting, reporting, and resource allocation.
* Strong HR and people leadership capabilities, including performance development and cultural alignment.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience working in or with not-for-profit, community, or culturally diverse settings.
* High level of personal integrity, ethical practice, and alignment with SMF’s values.
* A valid WA driver’s licence and the ability to travel regionally and interstate as required.
* Postgraduate qualifications in Business, Management, Public Sector Leadership or related field.
* Experience in the community development, youth, or Indigenous affairs sector.
* Understanding of governance practices, grant management, and regulatory compliance in a not-for-profit context.
