We are seeking a senior media officer who is passionate about education to lead the media operations of the Media Centre for Education Research Australia. The Senior Media Officer will be responsible for working closely with the Australian news media to ensure that MCERA services their needs. The ultimate goal is to support the mainstream media to facilitate the coverage of education research and to advance education issues.
What you'll be doing
* Oversee the development of media and communication strategies to advance the reporting of education issues in the mainstream media.
* Establish and maintain productive relationships with journalists and editors.
* Monitor the media and ensure that education research informs the reporting of key education issues.
* Present and assist in the development of media training and/or advice to key stakeholders.
* Provide guidance, direction and leadership to Media Officer/s and at times create media materials.
* Assist in the compilation of reports for the Board.
* Some out of hours work will be required including being on call to the media.
What we're looking for
Technical, Professional/knowledge and experience
* Qualifications and experience in journalism and/or media management.
* A solid understanding of the Australian media.
* Experience leading and working in a senior role.
* Strong management and strategic planning skills, including ability to self-manage and initiate activity.
* Experience in managing staff.
* Demonstrated knowledge of key issues in education or the ability to quickly acquire.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
* Attention to detail with strong organisational skills.
* Relationship management skills and the ability to interact with people across a variety of topics and at senior levels.
